The SHS Medical Technology Index, which was developed in cooperation between Christan Koziol, Professor and Chair of Finance at the University of Tübingen, and SHS, quantifies developments and industry trends. Among other things, Leonhardt blames the current downturn on the stricter regulatory requirements that came into force in 2017 with the new EU Medical Device Directive. Small and medium-sized companies in particular are faced with the challenge of complying with the regulations, says Leonhardt, referring to the increasing equity capital requirements.
