medtech two : “Welcome, robots!”
The medtech zwo magazine reports on developments in robot-assisted surgery. The SHS portfolio company AOT has developed an innovative procedure for bone surgery with its laser osteotomy robot Carlo. The robot is able to perform complicated operations on the bone independently under the supervision of a surgeon using a new type of laser cutting process. “The laser can also be used to cut very precise geometric structures that cannot be realized manually, but without changing the previously established procedure and the course of the operation,” says Cyrill Bätscher, CEO of AOT. The system therefore has considerable advantages over the traditional method using a saw. By the end of the year, the application for CE marking is to be submitted, so that certification can be expected in the first half of 2020.
