Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung: Medical technology industry loses momentum
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports about the newly issued SHS-Medtech-Index, which was jointly developed by Christian Koziol, Head of the Finance Department of the University of Tübingen, and SHS. The index measures the development of the German Medtech industry in relation to the overall economy since 2010. Four indicators are used: revenue, working population, patents granted, and share price development. Strong gains of the German Medtech industry are reported until 2016, followed by a loss of momentum since then. This is exemplified in the number of patents granted per year, which is stagnant for the Medtech industry since 2017, whereas the number for the economy as a whole still rises. One explanation for the development might by a tightening of regulatory requirements for medical products.
